Senior Data Engineer

For our Budapest office, we’re looking for a hands-on Senior Data Engineer who wants to build scalable data systems. We need someone who can take end-to-end ownership, bring clarity to ambiguity, mentor others, collaborate across technical and business teams, and stay curious about how data powers intelligent, AI-driven solutions.

The Value You Will Add:

• Help define how data engineering is done at Frankly — setting standards, shaping architecture, and influencing long-term platform direction.

• Design and implement scalable data pipelines and platform architecture (batch and near-real-time)

• Own data modeling strategies that support analytics, AI, and operational use cases

• Shape orchestration, data quality, performance optimization, governance, and observability practices

• Work across multi-system environments where data volume, complexity, and reliability genuinely matter.

• Collaborate with backend engineers to ensure clean integration across APIs and services

• Work directly with established international clients on technically complex data ecosystems

• Mentor junior engineers and help raise data engineering standards

In other words, this is a build-and-shape role, not a coordination or maintenance position. If you’re looking for boring routine, this isn’t it. This is primarily a data platform engineering role, with close collaboration across backend and analytics.

Who You Are:

• A strong hands-on data engineer who enjoys designing complex data systems and solving multi-faceted architectural challenges

• Comfortable navigating ambiguity — but not comfortable leaving it unresolved

• Experienced and confident enough to take technical ownership of solutions end-to-end

• Comfortable mentoring and supporting junior engineers

• Confident communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

You Must Have:

• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL

• Experience designing scalable, maintainable data pipelines and platform architectures

• Strong understanding of data modeling concepts (dimensional modeling, normalization, schema design)

• Understanding of performance optimization and data reliability principles

• Solid understanding of data management systems and platform-based architectures (Databricks preferred)

• Strong understanding of API integration and authentication (REST, gRPC, OAuth, etc.)

• Experience working with structured and semi-structured data (JSON, XML, CSV)

It’s Nice if You Are:

• Experienced with C#, Java, or similar languages

• Experienced with data visualisation tools (Power BI preferred)

• Experienced with cloud platforms (Azure preferred)

• Experience with analytics tooling (e.g., Google Analytics)

• Familiar with integration and debugging tooling (Postman, curl, etc.)

• Familiar with Microsoft ETL stack (DAX, PowerQuery)

• Experienced with NoSQL or Graph databases
